Every week, we introduce our social media followers to an artisan who sells their products in our shop.
Week of April 1 // Nora Rae Macrame
Cheyenne is a fiber artist from Valparaiso, IN. She creates gorgeous macrame plant hangers, jewelry and wall hangings.
Do any of your products benefit a nonprofit?
My business doesn't currently support any non-profits because it is still very, very new, but in the future I hope to support a non-profit involving postpartum support for new mamas (perhaps Postpartum Support International)
What’s your favorite part about owning a small business?
My favorite part of owning my own business is that it allows me to support my daughter while staying home with her. She is my partner in crime, accompanying me to all of my markets, deliveries and supply runs. I love that she will grow up seeing her mom doing something that she loves, and I hope that it inspires her to do what she loves, regardless of how unconventional or difficult it may be.
Coffee or tea?
I prefer coffee. Always coffee. Fluid Coffeebar is my home away from home. Right now their lavender latte is my go-to.
How do you kick back and relax?
My favorite way to relax is cuddling with my daughter Adelaide and watching her cartoons, and taking care of my 20+ plants (my other babies).
Strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?
I play it pretty safe when it comes to food. I accidentally ate a moth once though. Does that count? I was eating a salad and thought it was a mushroom, until I saw that it had antennas right as the bite was going into my mouth. I wouldn't recommend it.
Do you listen to any podcasts?
I don't stick to any specific one, but I listen to lots of podcasts about doulas, birth and parenting. Pregnancy/birth is my other passion; I'm actually in the process of becoming a certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, which I plan to do alongside macrame.
